San Diego Comic-Con International ( SDCC ), and Comic-Con International: San Diego , San Diego Comic-Con or just Comic-Con called, is a year since 1970 in California's San Diego held Comic - event .

The Comic-Con is currently the world's largest comic fair of its kind. In contrast to the four times more frequented Japanese Comiket , the Comic-Con is less about sales and more about exchange. Although originally conceived as a pure comic book fair, it now also offers a wide range of topics such as horror , science fiction or fantasy from other media such as film and television . Numerous cosplayers use them for appearances in as original or original superhero costumes as possible .

Since 2015 there have been events with the same name in Germany .

history

300 visitors came to the first fair in 1970. In 2006, there were first signs that the San Diego Convention Center would be too small for the event with increasing attendance. Since 2010, some parts of the official trade fair events have been taking place in surrounding hotels and neighboring buildings to relieve the center, for example in PETCO Park , the baseball stadium of the San Diego Padres. In 2012 the fair was visited by over 130,000 fans. In recent years there have been more and more TV panels; in 2013 over 100 series panels were registered.

Comic Cons in Germany

Based on the example of the San Diego Comic-Con, corresponding events were organized as German counterparts:

The first German Comic Con took place on December 5th and 6th, 2015 in the Westfalenhallen in Dortmund and was sold out with 30,000 visitors. Further events followed in Berlin, Dortmund, Frankfurt and Munich.

The first Comic Con Germany took place from June 25th to 26th, 2016 on the exhibition grounds in Stuttgart and was visited by over 50,000 people.
