German Comic Con
The German Comic Con (GCC) is the first German fan convention (or multi-genre convention) based on the example of the San Diego Comic Con and the New York Comic Con , as it focuses on cinema and TV stars from Hollywood , also offers comic artists and publishers as well as merchandise dealers as well as areas on the subjects of cosplay , manga and anime , games or wrestling .
The first GCC took place on December 5 and 6, 2015 in the Westfalenhallen Dortmund and recorded over 30,000 visitors. It extended over 25,000 m². The second GCC, which took place in Berlin in 2016 , counted more than 30,000 visitors, and the third GCC, which took place again in Dortmund at the end of 2016, increased the number of visitors to 45,000 fans. In 2017 and 2018, shows in Frankfurt am Main and Munich took place in addition to Berlin and Dortmund .
The previous star guests at the German Comic Con have already included Hollywood actors who have received international awards. a. the Golden Globe winners Rutger Hauer (1987) and Ron Perlman (1989), the César award winner Christopher Lambert (1986), the David di Donatello award winner Franco Nero (1968) and with Peter Weller even an actor who already has an OSCAR Nomination (1993). In addition, several actors have already been guests who have received the Life Career Award , which is presented as part of the Saturn Awards : Robert Englund (2001), Lance Henriksen (2009), Michael Biehn (2011) and Lee Majors (2017).

On social media
At the beginning of 2019, German Comic Con gathered over 100,000 followers on its Facebook page as the first trade fair of its kind in German-speaking countries. Together with your other social media channels, the series of events has a reach of over 120,000 followers (as of Feb. 2019). If one also includes the social media channels of the "Weekend of Hell", the event specializing in the horror genre of the same organizer, there are almost 170,000 followers (as of Feb. 2019).

Rudolph Dirks Award
In 2016, the first award for graphic literature was presented, the Rudolph Dirks Award, named after the German-American comic book pioneer Rudolph Dirks . The award will honor the best works by genre in 18 categories and the best artists by origin in 12 categories. A short-list jury determines the nominees per category. As with the US models, the Eisner Award and the Harvey Award , there will then be an online voting. The award is presented at the GCC Dortmund, which always takes place at the end of each year.
In addition to the 30 main categories to be voted on, there are also 2 special categories: Prize for Lifetime Achievement and Best Journalistic / Academic Publication . These prizes are awarded directly by the GCC.
