Manu Bennett
Jonathan Manu Bennett (* 10. October 1969 in Auckland , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand actor and model with Maori ancestry.
Life
The son of an Australian model and a New Zealand singer, Bennett was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia . On his father's side, Bennett is of Maori and Irish descent, but on his mother's side also partly of Scottish and Spanish descent. In 1986 he moved to New Zealand, his native country, to attend a school with a formative Maori character. He played rugby successfully in high school and was elected to the New South Wales Schoolboys Rugby Union team on his return to Australia .
Education
Before studying acting at the University of New South Wales , Bennett finished his rugby career and moved to Los Angeles to take up a scholarship at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute , which he combined with an interest in modern dance, classical ballet and piano.
Acting career
Bennett's professional acting career began in 1993 with the teen soap Paradise Beach . Afterwards Bennett was in a few guest appearances, including in the series The Violent Earth , with French production to see. After trying his hand at the theater, among other things, Bennett apparently achieved his theatrical breakthrough in 1999 with his first leading role in the Tokyo film Tomoko .
In 2001 Bennett, who was always interested in dance as a part-time job, got a role in the award-winning Australian film Lantana . In the film he played alongside Anthony La Paglia ( Without a Trace ) and showed his dancing skills as a salsa dancer .
In 2000 and 2003, Bennett appeared on two popular New Zealand television shows with Shortland Street and Going Straight . In 2006, Bennett starred alongside wrestler John Cena in The Marine . In 2007 he was seen in the US action film The Death Row . The film received mostly poor reviews.
Bennett plays one of the central characters in the American series Spartacus (2010 to 2013), the Gaul Crixus . In November 2012 he took on the role of Slade Wilson in the US television series Arrow , which was expanded to a leading role with the second season. In the Hobbit film trilogy, he played the orc Azog in all three parts . From 2016 to 2017 he was seen as Allanon in the fantasy series The Shannara Chronicles .
