Dirk Andreas van den Boom (* 24. December 1966 in Fuerstenau ) is a German political scientist , science fiction - writer and translator . Since 1996 he has been publishing specialist books in the field of political science, primarily on the subject of development policy . Dirk van den Boom's science fiction used to appear mostly in series such as Ren Dhark or the SF series Rescue Cruiser Ikarus , which he initiated in 2000 , but since 2007 also in the form of independent novels. Tentakelschatten (2007) was nominated for the Kurd-Laßwitz-Prize in 2008. The first part of his series entitled The Worlds of Skiir , Prinzipat , was awarded the German Science Fiction Prize in 2017 .

Life

Dirk van den Boom was born on December 24, 1966 in Fürstenau and grew up in Wilhelmshaven . From 1988 to 1995 he studied political science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , where he did his doctorate. Since 1998 he has held various teaching positions at the University of Münster and the University of the Saarland in Saarbrücken , and since 2012 he has been an adjunct professor at the University of Münster as well as an expert and trainer in the field of development aid. Dirk van den Boom has been self-employed since 2005. He is married and lives in Saarbrücken with his wife and two children.
