Iain Glen (born June 24, 1961 in Edinburgh , Scotland ) is a British actor .

life and career

Iain Glen attended the Edinburgh Academy and then studied at the University of Aberdeen . He also completed his acting studies at the renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London .

In 1990 he won the Silver Bear for his performance in the film The Silent Scream . A year later he won the Evening Standard British Film Award as Best Actor for his role in Mountains of the Moon . In 2003 he starred in Richard Sorge - A Passionate Spy . In the fifth season of the BBC series Doctor Who , he played Father Octavian in the episodes The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone . Between 2011 and 2019, he starred as Ser Jorah Mormont on the HBO series Game of Thrones . In the Jack Taylor films based on the crime novels by Ken Bruen , he has played the Irish title hero since 2010 , and he portrayed the Florentine Dominican Girolamo Savonarola in the second season of the European series Borgia .

Glen was married to actress Susannah Harker from 1993 to 2004 , and they have a son together. He has been in a relationship with actress Charlotte Emmerson since 2005 . Their daughter was born in September 2007.
