Darkness (alternative title on television: Darkness ) is an American - Spanish horror film from 2002 . Directed by Jaume Balagueró , who wrote the script together with Fernando de Felipe .

action

An American family moves into a house in Spain where six children were missing 40 years earlier in connection with religious rituals. Mark has suffered from mental disorders since moving, which is why he is receiving medical treatment. His son Paul is convinced that supernatural powers are active in his bedroom.

Mark's daughter Regina learns that the house was designed to enhance the supernatural effect of the constellation of heavenly bodies that occurs every 40 years. It takes another child to die for the rituals to be performed. Regina and her friend Carlos try to save her brother.

The family is in the house when the solar eclipse begins. Mark suffocates as Regina tries to clear his airway. She goes upstairs to her brother. Meanwhile, Regina's mother appears, the ghosts of her children, who ask them to turn off the flame of the stove - which gives the only light in the kitchen. At the same time, the ghost of their mother appears to the children on the first floor of the house, who wants them to turn off the lamp. You don't listen to it; the spirit turns into a sinister being that flees. However, the mother turns off the stove.

The children flee through a window and are picked up by Carlos. Shortly thereafter, Carlos drives his car in front of the house. He comes in and looks for Regina; the front door closes by itself behind him. Regina asks the supposed Carlos whether it has stopped . He denies it as the car approaches a dark tunnel.

Reviews

Frank checks wrote in the journal The Hollywood Reporter of 28 December 2004, the film " boast " with the " dignified occupation " and with the atmosphere to " hopeless stupidity " ( " utter inanity to hide"). It is a collection of barely connected scenes (" compendium of barely connected scenes "), which would ultimately slide into incoherence. The dialogues are ridiculous, the presentations are not outstanding.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was “ a largely successful variation of the haunted house motif, which, however, has lost its fascination due to a quasi-religious conspiracy theory ”. He was " overall an effective horror film that gets under your skin ".
