Resident Evil: Retribution

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (also: Resident Evil 6 or Resident Evil 6: The Final Chapter ) is an American science fiction - action - horror film directed by Paul WS Anderson from 2016 and the sequel to the film Resident Evil: Retribution from 2012. It is the sixth and final part of the Resident Evil real film series . The premiere took place on December 23, 2016 in Japan. The cinema release in the United States was on January 27, 2017, in Germany one day earlier. The film was shot in 2D and converted to 3D. According to Anderson, the main reason for this was the fast and tight action scenes that would have been difficult to implement with larger 3D cameras.

action

The film begins after the battle at the White House in Washington, DC against the undead was lost with the destruction of the entire area and the death of all soldiers. Alice receives the order from the Umbrella Corporation's supercomputer, represented by the Red Queen hologram , to return to Raccoon City and to retrieve an antiserum against the T-virus from the company's underground bunker, the Hive . However, this must happen within 48 hours, since after this period the remaining humanity would be exterminated. Despite Alice's mistrust, she finally makes her way there.

She is held up by a roadblock by Dr. Alexander Isaacs captured and chained to the undead behind his armored vehicle. By doing this, Isaacs tries to get her to tell him how she knows about the existence of the antiserum. However, Alice manages to break free and get to Raccoon City on a motorcycle. There she meets other survivors, including Claire Redfield, in a largely destroyed skyscraper. The survivors manage to defend themselves against the first attack by Isaac's men, who are instrumentalizing the undead for their own purposes, by throwing and igniting several barrels of gasoline at the trucks and the undead. In doing so, Isaacs managed to escape.

Alice and the rest of the survivors discover more of Isaac's men who are also on their way to the skyscraper. However, due to the time running out, they decide to make their way to the Hive . On the way, two of the survivors are killed by zombie dogs. Arrived at an access tunnel to the Hive , more survivors die from Wesker, who switches on turbines, through which one of the members is pulled in and cut up. The Red Queen gives Alice the tip that one of the group belongs to the Umbrella Corporation. She could not kill an employee of the Umbrella Corporation by her programming, but shows Alice a video uploaded by an employee. This shows a meeting of the board of directors of the Umbrella Corporation, at which it becomes apparent that the Umbrella Corporation deliberately released the T-Virus in order to wipe out most of the human race before pollution, overpopulation, wars and political conflicts destroy the world.

Wesker lets the Red Queen wake the real Isaacs and Alicia - the two CEOs of the Umbrella Corporation - from cryosleep. After some fights against the undead and the Wesker traps, Alice and Doc finally get into the laser room from the first part , behind which there are still the weapon bags from ten years ago. Since she already suspects that Doc is the informant for the Umbrella Corporation, she gives him a weapon from which she previously removed the ammunition. An elevator takes them to the lower part of the hive . From the elevator, the two of them have a view of thousands of cryo chambers, in which the wealthy managers, shareholders and other members of the Umbrella Corporation were frozen using cryotherapy in order to wake them up after the apocalypse and thus to found a new company. In the lower part, Alice meets Isaacs. It turns out that the other Isaacs Alice encountered were just copies of him. It also shows that Alice is also just a copy - of Alicia. The Red Queen's looks and her voice are full of information from her childhood.

A short time later, Claire comes into the room and is threatened with a gun by Wesker. When Alicia Wesker gives an order, but this only wants to listen to Isaacs, she fires at him, whereupon the Red Queen can attack him and incapacitate him. Distracted by this, Alice can knock Doc to the ground, who is shortly afterwards shot by Claire - his girlfriend to date. Isaacs supposedly flees with the antiserum into the elevator, in which Alice and Claire follow him. After a fight, Alice ends up in the laser room that Isaacs activates. She can dodge the laser beams and survives, causing Isaacs himself to come into the room and fight Alice again. When he sticks her fingers into the laser beams, she secretly sticks a grenade into his coat, seriously injuring him.

Alice comes to the surface where Isaacs' copy approaches her with the horde of the undead. As she throws the antiserum on the ground so that it can be airborne and thus destroy the undead, the real Isaacs appears behind her and catches the ampoule. Isaacs and his copy collide with Isaacs being stabbed to death by his clone, who in turn is killed by the undead who follow him. Alice then throws the antiserum to the ground, causing the undead in the immediate vicinity to finally drop dead. Alice passes out herself.

A short time later she wakes up again. Since she had received information from the Red Queen and Alicia that she would also die if the antiserum were released, she is surprised to be alive. The Red Queen explains to her that they had to be sure that Alice would be ready to do anything to save the remaining humanity.

The film ends with Alice on a motorcycle, being followed by several BOWs. The airborne antiserum would take several years to spread, so she would continue to fight the undead.

production

The start of shooting was originally planned for autumn 2014. However, due to another film project by Milla Jovovich and her pregnancy, it was postponed. Filming began in September 2015 and took place in South Africa , among other places . The working title was Resident Evil: Rising . The film music was composed by the Austrian Paul Haslinger .

During filming, Olivia Jackson , a stunt woman in the film by Milla Jovovich, lost her arm in a failed stunt in September 2015 when she raced towards a camera crane on a motorcycle, which, however, could not be swiveled out of the way in time due to a technical error. In December 2015, technician Ricardo Cornelius died from his injuries after a platform collapsed and he was pushed against a wall by a Humvee .

Reviews

"Conclusion: Milla Jovovich in her prime role, lots of monsters, a few impressive apocalypse images and some clever ideas -" Resident Evil: The Final Chapter "is a solid zombie action ripper and a fitting end to the film series."

" Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is pervaded by the right intentions, but ultimately fails due to the execution and the allegedly significantly reduced budget compared to its predecessor [...] The film seems like a half-baked compromise and at least didn't bring me the fun that I did had with the predecessors. On the contrary: the first time I felt the need to run out of the cinema while watching a "Resident Evil" film. At some point I just wanted it to be over. "
