Resident Evil: Vendetta ( Japanese バイオハザードヴェンデッタ , Baiohazādo Vendetta for Biohazard: Vendetta ) is a computer-animated film based on the Capcom video game series Resident Evil . It was produced by Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan and is the sequel to Resident Evil: Damnation .

The film premiered in Japan on May 27, 2017. The release on DVD , Blu-ray Disc and Ultra HD Blu-ray followed on June 20, 2017 in North America and on September 6, 2017 in Japan.

Kenji Kawai's soundtrack was released on July 7, 2017 on the iTunes Store .

The captain of the UN paramilitary organization BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance) Chris Redfield receives the order in Guerrero , Mexico to liquidate the arms dealer Glenn Arias, an unscrupulous profiteer who is said to be in possession of a very effective bio-organic weapon and doctor Free Kathy White and her son Zack.

The team reaches an abandoned hacienda and is suddenly attacked by numerous zombies , all of Redfield's colleagues are killed. Redfield manages to escape from the villa, but is attacked by Glenn and his assistant Maria Gomez and their father Diego, a genetically modified mutant. Arias justifies his lust for revenge against the people with a government air raid on his wedding, in which his bride Sarah and the whole family were killed. Redfield survives and is able to save himself with the helicopter that is supposed to evacuate the squad.

Four months later, Chicago professor Rebecca Chambers developed an antidote to a novel virus that is spreading increasingly across Northeast America . When Arias learns about this, he sends Maria to destroy the laboratory and vaccine and set the virus free. Rebecca manages to inject the antidote at the last minute. She is attacked by former colleagues who have already mutated into zombies. She can be rescued by the rescue team, led by Redfield. She then joins Chris Redfield and the "Alpha" disease control team.

For reinforcement they bring the DSO (Division of Security Operations) agent Leon S. Kennedy, who lost the entire train to treason during his last assignment in Washington, DC and has now settled in the Rocky Mountains . They are ambushed by Maria and Diego and Rebecca is captured.

Because of a clear resemblance to his late wife Sarah, Arias intends to make Rebecca his bride. He develops a new strain of the A virus to resist Rebecca's vaccine and injects it into her. Chris and Leon team up and start a rescue operation to prevent Arias' plan from launching a large-scale attack on New York City .

While the Arias employees launch their attack on the big city by releasing a virus-laden gas via tankers, the new BSAA team of Leon, Chris, DC, Damian and Nadia manages to destroy the vehicles, contain the virus and To incapacitate Maria. Damian is brutally beheaded by zombie dogs. Chris invades Arias' house, defeats Diego, and saves Rebecca. On the terrace, Chris engages Arias in hand-to-hand combat and throws Arias onto the glass terrace, who dies from the fall.

As a result, Diego merges with Arias to form a new tyrant monster, although he was seriously injured after the defeat of Chris. Chris has little chance against the tyrant until Leon joins the fight after fighting his way through the house and defeating the zombies there. With the support of DC and Nadia, they manage to catch the tyrant. Chris kills him with a grenade launcher . They find the antidote that Arias was keeping and use it to heal Rebecca before they fly away in the helicopter. Maria survives and swears vengeance for the deaths of her father and Arias.

On October 15, 2015, Marza Animation Planet announced that they had decided to make a full-length CG animation film from the Resident Evil series , which would be referred to as a "restart" and would be released in 2017.
