Afshan Noor Azad (born February 12, 1988 in Manchester , Lancashire ) is a British actress best known for her role as Padma Patil in the Harry Potter films .

Career

Azad is probably best known for her portrayal as Padma Patil in the Harry Potter films. Azad got the role while people from casting agencies were visiting her school. After she attended a few auditions, she was selected for the role.

Personal life

Azad is from Longsight in Manchester . She is of Bengali descent. Azad and her film partner Shefali Chowdhury became good friends after the production of the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire . Azad is also good friends with film partners Bonnie Wright and Katie Leung , who play the roles of Ginny Weasley and Cho Chang, respectively. Azad was an AS-level student studying chemistry, biology, English and business studies at Xaverian College in Rusholme . She married in 2018.

Assault and death threats lawsuit

On June 29, 2010, Azad's father and brother were tried in the Manchester Magistrates' Court. There they were charged with threatening to kill her. Afshan's father and brother attacked her because of their relationship with a non-Muslim man (he was Hindu ). Both were released on bail. The actress' brother was also charged with "acts of violence that actually caused physical harm".
