Amanda Bearse (born August 9, 1958 in Winter Park , Florida ) is an American actress and director .

Life

After high school, Bearse first studied English literature and acting with Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York . She then trained as a director at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles and at the same time worked as a theater actress on Off-Broadway .

As an actress, Bearse got her first major role in the soap opera All My Children , in which she played Amanda Cousins from 1982 to 1984 . International notoriety it reached in 1987 for her role as Marcy Rhoades-D'Arcy in the US sitcom Married with Children ( Married ... With Children ), in which it as a performance-based banker for ten years and eleven seasons next to the misanthropic anti-hero and Shoe seller Al Bundy played. In the cinema she was the leading actress alongside Roddy McDowall as a scary vampire hunter in the horror comedy Die ravenenschwarze Nacht - Fright Night (1985). She had other film appearances alongside Goldie Hawn in Protocol (1984) and alongside Tim Robbins in Fraternity Vacation (1985). On television she played guest roles in series such as Hotel and the series special Here Come the Munsters (1995).

Bearse is also one of the few women who has established herself as a director on American television. She has made numerous episodes of A Terribly Kind Family and other sitcoms such as Jesse with Christina Applegate , who was her “neighbor” for ten years as Al Bundy's daughter, Dharma & Greg with Jenna Elfman and Veronica's Closet (Veronica) with Kirstie Alley .

In 1993 Bearse came out as gay , not least in connection with her appearance in "Out There 2", a stand-up comedy production with other lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender comedians. She lives in Los Angeles with her two adoptive daughters and her long-time partner, who she married in 2010.
