Joseph Marcell

Joseph Marcell (born August 14, 1948 in St. Lucia ) is a British actor best known as the butler Geoffrey in the sitcom The Prince of Bel Air .
He was born on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia and immigrated to England with his family at the age of five. He studied drama while in college and then took classes in speech and dance at the University of Sheffield in Yorkshire . As a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company , he appeared in performances such as Othello and A Midsummer Night's Dream . On the London stage he has appeared in plays such as Sherlock Holmes and Black Star . He appeared again in Othello in a BBC radio special . He has also made a number of appearances in British television series and films.
Marcell is deeply involved in theater and serves on the boards of the Old Globe Theater and the Temba Theater Company . In addition to these activities, he promotes young actors and regularly organizes Shakespeare drama workshops in Los Angeles .
Marcell has a son and a daughter.
