Kari Korhonen (born October 8, 1973 in Espoo ) is a Finnish comic artist and author , who is known for his work at Disney . He is considered one of the leading comic artists in Finland.

life and work

Korhonen began drawing comics as a child. His parents subscribed for him to the Aku Ankka , a series of booklets on the Finnish version of Donald Duck . At school, he focused on art . At home he spent a lot of time drawing "funny animals". This should also be his focus during his work as a professional draftsman. He is self-taught in his profession .

Since 1992 Korhonen has worked as a cartoonist , illustrator and advertising artist, also illustrated children's books and sketched for national Finnish daily newspapers such as Helsingin Sanomat . He also developed comics and storyboards for television , especially for commercials . He initially designed merchandising items for the Finnish licensee for Disney products . This is how he came into contact with the Danish media company Egmont, the parent company of Egmont Ehapa Verlag and rights holder for Disney comics in numerous European countries. He has been working full-time for the creative department in Copenhagen since 1993 . In addition to Donald Duck, his favorite Disney characters include Dagobert Duck , or Roope Ankka in Finnish. In addition to the well-known Disney main characters, he develops stories about the young Donald Duck (Donny Duck) based on the Disney series Paperino Paperotto (in Finnish Pikku-Aku) from Italy . According to Ehapa Publishing, Korhonen develops most of the Donny Duck stories. He is increasingly active as an author. He works with well-known Disney artists such as Ignasi Calvet Esteban and Maximino Tortajada Auguilar .

Korhonen's artistic role models are Carl Barks , Daniel Branca , Daan Jippes and Romano Scarpa . According to his publisher, he often works with scribbles , especially when developing complete comic strips . A hallmark of Korhonen is that he occasionally draws himself into the stories as a comic figure, sitting at the drawing table with a sailor's hat in Donald Duck style. In Finland, which has a strong comic culture, Kari Korhonen is a well-known figure and appears on television there.
