San Felipe, Yaracuy

San Felipe is the capital of the Venezuelan state of Yaracuy . Around 86,000 people live in San Felipe. The city, 250 m above sea level, is the seat of the diocese of San Felipe. It is located in the Uadabacoa valley in a fertile area where sugar cane and other agricultural products are grown .

history

In 1720 Capuchins built a mission station. San Felipe was founded in 1729. An earthquake in 1812 destroyed large parts of the city. Some ruins are still preserved.

Museo Carmelo Fernández
  • Tropical rainforest can be found in the Parque Nacional Yuribí.
  • In the center is the historical park of San Felipe El Fuerte with the ruins of the buildings destroyed by the earthquake.
  • In the Exótica Flora Tropical Park, you can visit the rebuilt former Mission of Our Lady of Mount Carmel from 1720.
  • The Museo Carmelo Fernández is an interdisciplinary museum for visual art of the region. It opened in 1981.
