Luis Sangel Arráez (born April 9, 1997 in San Felipe , Yaracuy ) is a Venezuelan baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB) who is mainly used as a second baseman , but also as a third baseman and outfielder .

Career

Arráez signed a contract with the Minnesota Twins in November 2013 . He made his debut as a professional baseball player in 2014 with the Dominican Summer League Twins, a junior team for the Minnesota Twins in the Dominican Republic . There he played 31 games and had a batting average of .348. Arráez played with LaMonte Wade and Jaylin Davis in 2016 with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. This was followed by further assignments in higher-class rookie teams of the Twins in various leagues of the Minor League (MiLB). On May 18, 2019, at the age of 22, he made his MLB debut wearing the Minnesota Twins' jersey against the Seattle Mariners . In that game he hit a double and played as a shortstop and second baseman . The game was won by the Twins at 18-4. Arráez hit his first home run in the MLB three days later on May 21, 2019 against the Los Angeles Angels . He finished the season with a batting average of .334 and 92 games. He was also sixth in the poll for Rookie of the Year the American League (AL).
