San Jacinto Monument
The San Jacinto Monument is a 173.7-meter-high column , which from 1936 to 1939 in La Porte ( Texas was built).
The design comes from the Texan architect Alfred Finn . The monument , which is reminiscent of the Washington Monument in its construction , carries a 220-tonne star on its top. It commemorates the Battle of San Jacinto , the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution . The star is the symbol of the state of Texas. The pillar is located on the Houston Ship Canal in the San Jacinto Battlefield and is the second tallest monument in the United States.
In December 1960, the San Jacinto Battlefield including the monument was declared a National Historic Landmark . In October 1966, the Historic District was entered with the monument as a Contributing Property in the National Register of Historic Places . In 1992 the American Society of Civil Engineers added them to the List of Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks .
