description

The current building was built at the beginning of the 13th century, probably on the ruins of a building from the end of the 6th century.

The first paintings were made at the end of the 14th century. Significant alterations were made in 1581, as indicated by a date chiseled at the entrance. The apse room was raised and extended to the west and a Romanesque bell tower was built in the foundation walls. The sacristy on the south side was added in 1608. The church is surrounded by a cemetery, to the left of the portal there is a small ossuary.

The church interior was redesigned in the 19th century. The restoration from 1973 to 1988 gave the church its 15th century appearance. The height of the building from the 14th century can still be seen on the south wall.

The church interior has a single nave, the semicircular apse and the side walls are painted. The altar dates from pre-Romanesque times. It is decorated with an inlay made of stucco marble in pastel tones and shows a mountain landscape with a castle ruin. The work is from Franceso Solari in 1732.

The painting of the half-dome of the apse probably dates from the 15th century. It shows Christ in the mandorla surrounded by the four evangelists, including the row of apostles: the head of the third from the left was repainted by Calgari in the 19th century. At the top of the choir arch the Annunciation is depicted, in front on the right is Saint Anthony Abbot.

The frescoes on the side walls came to light during the renovation and come from different eras:

The picture on the south wall, like the picture of Christ above the side entrance, was made at the end of the 14th century and shows St. Christopher . The frescoes on the north wall are by the same artist from the Lombard school. They show the crucifixion with Mary and John and two saints. The pictures on the north wall were made at the end of the 15th century.
