Lordship of Hamm

The rule of Hamm was a territory in the Duchy of Luxembourg that existed until the end of the 18th century. It was named after the former Hamm Castle , today Hamm Castle , which was located in the area of ​​what is now the local community of Hamm in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm ( Rhineland-Palatinate ).

Until the 16th century, Niederpierscheid and Oberpierscheid also belonged to the Hamm dominion.

The rule of Hamm was first mentioned in documents in 1334. With regard to the ownership structure up to the end of the 18th century, the history of the Hamm rulership is closely linked to the history of Hamm Castle . The duchy of Luxembourg had sovereignty , after the administrative reorganization of the duchy belonging to Austria by Maria Theresa , the rule belonged to the Bitburg district .

After the Thirty Years War , the dominion's villages were "completely extinct". In 1658 it was reported that three refugees had returned after the Peace of Westphalia , their cattle were taken from them and taken prisoners. 450 guilders are being demanded from others who have fled for ten to twelve years.

In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the Austrian Netherlands , to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, and annexed it in October 1795 . Under the French administration , the area was assigned to the department of forests , Biersdorf, Echtershausen, Hamm and Wiersdorf came to the canton of Bitburg , Hermesdorf and Wißmannsdorf to the canton of Neuerburg .

In 1815, the region came to the Kingdom of Prussia , all the villages were in 1816 the Bitburg in Trier assigned.
