San Salvador Island is the name of an island in the Philippine province of Zambales . It is located off the west coast of the island of Luzón in the South China Sea . The island has an area of around 3.80 km² and is administered by the municipality of Masinloc . According to the 2007 census, 1801 inhabitants were registered. San Salvador is one of the 13 barangays (roughly parishes) of the Masinloc parish.

The topography of the island is flat and 30% covered with secondary forest. 60% of the island's area is used for rice cultivation and 10% for mango plantations .

San Salvador Island is surrounded in the north by numerous coral reefs , some seagrass meadows and Sargassum forests. The San Salvador fish sanctuary was set up around the coral reefs in 1989 by the local authorities and has a size of 1.27 km². The Samahang Pangkaunlaran ng San Salvador (Organization for the Development of San Salvador) and the Bantay Dagat (Protector of the Sea) look after the marine reserve, founded by the inhabitants of the island . Effective coastal management was developed between 2004 and 2006 in cooperation with the HARIBON Foundation. This also aims to protect the extensive mangrove forests . The protective measures allowed the coral reefs and fish stocks to recover.

San Salvador Island is about 2.5 km from the port in Masinloc and can be reached by boat in 20-30 minutes.
