Chiesa di San Siro Genova

San Siro is one of the oldest churches in the Italian city of Genoa . It was built in the 4th century in the city center, today's old town. It was first named after the Twelve Apostles , but when the canonized Bishop Syrus died, his name was given to it. Until the inauguration of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, San Siro was the cathedral of Genoa.

In 1006 the church was handed over to the Benedictine order and completely rebuilt. After a fire in 1580, it was restored from 1585 to 1619. Except for the facade , which was created by Carlo Barabino in 1821 , it has kept this shape since then.

In the church there are works by Orazio Gentileschi and Carlo Bonone .
