Sanaeng Gaen

The Sanaeng Gaen (or Sanaeng Kaen; Thai เสนง เก ล , RTGS : Saneng Keng ) belongs to the group of woodwind instruments . It is played in the south of Isan , the northeast region of Thailand .

The Sanaeng Gaen has a single reed made of metal or bamboo and attached to the mouthpiece . The sound body is made from the horn of the water buffalo . Half of the lower end of the sound box is covered with a thin piece of wood.

In addition to musical performances, the Sanaeng Gaen is also used as a signaling instrument when hunting elephants.
