The Sanbanxi Dam ( Chinese 三 板 溪 水电站 , Pinyin Sānbǎnxī shuǐdiànzhàn ) is a 185.5 m high CFR dam on the upper Yuan Shui in the People's Republic of China . A hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 1 gigawatt belongs to the barrier structure . The dam is located in Jinping County, Guizhou Province . Construction began in 2001 and was completed five years later.
The project is to serve the development of the western part of China. It is the most important part of the tenth five-year plan and belongs to a total of 15 hydropower projects on the Yuanshui. The total output is generated with four 250 MW turbines and enables the provision of 2.428 billion kilowatt hours of electrical energy annually. The first machine set went into operation on July 19, 2006.
