The Yuan Jiang ( Chinese 沅江 , Pinyin Yuán Jiāng ) or Yuan Shui ( 沅水 , Yuán Shuǐ ), a navigable tributary of the Yangtze River , is the second largest river in the Chinese province of Hunan after the Xiang Jiang and the seventh largest tributary of the Yangtze River.
The Yuan Jiang has its source in Guizhou Province and flows into the Dongting Lake in northern Hunan , over which its water flows into the Yangtze River. Its river system has a total length of 1033 kilometers, 568 of them in Hunan; the catchment area covers 89,163 square kilometers, the mean water flow is 2158 m³ / s.
