The Yalong Jiang ( 雅礱江 / 雅砻江 , Ya-lung Chiang , English Yalong River / Ya-lung River ) is a 1,637 kilometer long river in China . It has its source in the Bayan Har Mountains ( Bayan Har Shan ) in the south of Qinghai Province and flows through the west of Sichuan Province .
It is a tributary of the Jinsha Jiang (upper reaches of the Yangtze River ), into which it flows in the area of Panzhihua (the former Dukou) on the border with Yunnan . In the middle and lower reaches it flows through narrow, often ravine-like valley valleys, which hardly offer any space for agricultural land and larger settlements.
Its tributaries include Xianshui He鲜 水河, Liqiu He力 丘 河, Litang He理塘 河, Jiulong He九龙 河 and Anning He安宁 河.
Dams
The Yalong is to be dammed in the Jinping I dam, the Lianghekou dam and several others. The Ertan Dam has already been completed .
A total of 23 dams, each with an attached hydropower plant, are planned along the course of the Yalong Jiang.
