The Min Jiang , Minjiang or Min River , old : Minkiang ( Chinese  岷江 , Pinyin Mín Jiāng , W.-G. Min Chiang , English Min River / Minjiang River ) is a 735 km long river in central Sichuan .

It is the most water-rich tributary of the Yangtze River . The left tributary rises at the southern foot of the Minshan Mountains ( 岷山 , Min Shan ) in the Ngawa Autonomous District of the Tibetans and Qiang . It takes in the rivers Heishui He ( 黑水河 ), Zagunao He ( 杂 谷 脑 河 ), Dadu He ( 大渡河 ) and Mabian He ( 马 边 河 ) before moving into the (upper) Yangtze River in Yibin ( 宜宾 ) flows out.

It flows through the Ngawa ( 阿坝 ) areas (through the Wenchuan area , the epicenter of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake ), where it is also dammed in the Zipingpu Dam , Chengdu , Meishan , Leshan and finally Yibin , where it joins the Jinsha Jiang - d. H. the upper reaches of the Yangtze River - converges.

The fertile Chengdu Plain in the western part of the Sichuan Basin ( Red Basin ), the largest plain in southwest China in terms of area, was created from the deposits of the Min Jiang and its tributaries.

It feeds the Dujiangyan irrigation system in Dujiangyan City ( 都江堰 ).
