Sandown (gambling)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sandown is a roulette-like game of chance named after the famous Sandown Park racecourse in south London , and was marketed by the London company FH Ayres.

Game flow

The winning horse - here: Esmeralda - is indicated by the winning post (target
post ) on the edge of the cylinder.

The game includes a betting area ( tableau ) on which the betting options are drawn, and a device similar to a roulette cylinder. The winning chance is not determined by the throw of a ball, but only by the rotation of the cylinder. The turntable is divided into different sized sectors, from which the different high probability of winning result.

The betting options

Tableau for the missions

The players bet on their favorite "horses". Once the bets have been made, the banker sets the turntable in motion, as soon as it comes to a standstill, the winner is announced, the losing bets are withdrawn and the winnings are paid out.

The following horses take part in the "race", the winning odds are net odds, i. H.

horse probability Win rate
Esmeralda 12/37 2: 1
Dorothy 9/37 3: 1
Waverley 6/37 5: 1
Peeping Tom 4/37 8: 1
Maid Marian 3/37 11: 1
Mr. Pickwick 2/37 17: 1
Bolter 1/37 35: 1

Example : If a player bets £ 5 on Esmeralda , he will win with a probability of 12/37 and in the event of a win, in addition to his stake of £ 5, he will receive a win at a ratio of 2: 1, i.e. £ 10; so he receives a total of £ 15 back.

In addition, there are two other easy chances , viz

  • Esmeralda & Waverley coupled against the field
This chance wins if either Esmeralda or Waverley wins, the odds are 18/37.
  • The Field against Esmeralda & Waverley coupled
is the opposite chance, the probability of winning is 19/37.

Dead heat

If the turntable comes to a standstill in such a way that the pointer points exactly to a dividing line between two sectors, this is considered a dead race and the procedure is exactly as it is usual for bookmaker bets in this case , i.e. H. the total payout is halved. If someone places £ 5 on Esmeralda, as in the example above, and the pointer points exactly to the dividing line between Esmeralda and an adjacent sector, he will only receive £ 7.50 instead of £ 15.

Bank advantage

For all bets except the bet The Field against Esmeralda & Waverley coupled is the bank with 1/37 = 2.70% over the players in advantage . In the bet The Field against Esmeralda & Waverley coupled , however, the player has an advantage (with the same 2.7%).
