Sandschaasürengiin Ojuun ( Mongolian Санжаасүрэнгийн Оюун ; * 1964 in Ulaanbaatar ) is a Mongolian politician .

Education and professional life

Sandschaasürengiin Ojuun attended school in her hometown of Ulan Bator until 1981. In 1987 she graduated in geochemistry at the Prague Charles University from. She then worked as a geologist on a joint Czechoslovak- Mongolian expedition. From 1990 to 1991 she worked on a project of the United Nations Development Program . In 1996, she completed her doctorate ( Ph. D. ) at Cambridge University in geosciences , and then worked for a short time at the multinational mining company Rio Tinto Group .

Political career

In 1998 she switched to politics in her home country. After the murder of her brother Sandschaasürengiin Dzorig , who was also politically active , she took over his constituency in the province of Dornod and was elected to the Mongolian parliament for the first time. Since 2000 she has been chairman of the Party of the Citizens' Will (Mongolian Irgenii Dsorig Nam ). In the same year and again in 2004 she was re-elected as a member of parliament. From 2004 to 2005 she was Vice-President of Parliament. as well as chair of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Coalition of the Fatherland (Mongol. Ech Oron-Ardtschilal ). From 2006 to 2007 she was chair of the parliamentary committee for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and poverty reduction. From 2007 to 2008 she was Foreign Minister of Mongolia. In addition to Mongolian , she also speaks English , Russian and Czech .

family

Sandschaasürengiin Ojuun is married and has two children. Her mother is a well-known actress in Mongolia. Her murdered brother Sandschaasürengiin Dzorig was one of the leaders of the Mongolian democracy movement in 1990.
