Sandsvatn, a favorite fishing spot in the Faroe Islands

The Sandsvatn is the largest lake on the island of Sandoy with 0.8 km² and at the same time the third largest inland lake in the Faroe Islands .

The lake is only about 5 meters deep and is located in the valley between Skopun and Sandur directly north of the last-named place on road 30 . At the northern end of the lake there is not only the school center of the island, but also a small forest (plantation) right next to it, which, however, suffered greatly in the hurricane of 1988.

The lake is rich in trout , lake trout and salmon .
