Sandtown in Georgia ( USA ) is a predominantly African American place southwest of Atlanta , Georgia. Within the Atlanta area, this place is one of the wealthiest with Afro-American residents. The majority of the population belongs to the middle and upper classes. During the time of the Underground Railway , this place was a station for many of the escaped slaves on their way to the Northern States. The well-known escape helper Harriet Tubman used several contacts that she had in this place.

Sandtown was originally one of the largest Indian villages in the area in which Atlanta was to develop.
