The Sangihe-Zwergohreule ( Otus Collari ) is an owl from the genus of scops owl .

description

The very small owl reaches a length of 19 to 20 centimeters. A single male weighed 76 grams. The dirty brown top is provided with dark shaft lines, scribbles and yellowish spots as well as a light-dark shoulder band. On the light throat and underside there are long shaft lines with some transverse bands. The face is light, but darker between the light yellow eyes and the horn-colored bill. The feather ears are medium-sized and spotted dull yellow. The feet are feathered up to the base of the light gray-brown toes. The claws are light brown with a dark tip.

The similar Manado scops owl ( Otus manadensis ) has longer eyebrows and shorter wings.

Way of life

The owl inhabits forests and agricultural land with trees, its main food is probably insects. The call consists of püüüt sounds lasting 0.7 seconds , which are repeated at intervals of 0.3 to eleven seconds.

distribution

The species is endemic to Sangihe Besar , the main island in the Indonesian Sangihe archipelago . It is common there, but suffers from habitat destruction.
