Sangmélima is a city in Cameroon in the Sud region . With about 64,000 inhabitants, it is the capital of the Dja-et-Lobo district .

Sangmélima is located in southern Cameroon, about 643 meters above sea level. 50 kilometers east of the city begins the 5300 square kilometer Dja wildlife reserve , which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 .
