The Sanmina Corporation (NASDAQ: SANM) is one of the largest international manufacturing service providers for electronic components and complete systems. The technology leader for Electronics Manufacturing Services ( EMS ) ranks sixth among the top 10 EMS companies worldwide. Sanmina is one of the 500 largest US companies and ranked 292 among the Fortune 500 in 2009 .

The contract manufacturer with headquarters in San José offers Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) the possibility to outsource their production. For this purpose, Sanmina maintains worldwide production facilities in important target regions on four continents and in 18 countries. Around 45,000 employees work for Sanmina worldwide.

history

The company was founded in 1980 by Milan Mandaric and Jure Sola. The focus was on the production of printed circuit boards . At the end of the 1980s, the portfolio was expanded to include bus circuit boards (backplanes) and assemblies.

In December 2001, Sanmina bought SCI Systems (Space Craft Incorporated) of Huntsville for $ 6 billion . SCI was almost twice the size of Sanmina at the time, but suffered from low margins in the production of PCs. On the other hand, Sanmina was in a much better position financially thanks to its very good telecommunications business. After the merger with SCI Systems, the company was renamed Sanmina in 2001.
