The Sanriku Fukkō National Park ( Japanese 三 陸 復興 国立 公園 Sanriku Fukkō Kokuritsu Kōen , German 'Sanriku Reconstruction National Park' ) is a national park in the Tōhoku region , Japan .
It covers an area of 28,537 hectares and extends along the Sanriku coastline over the prefectures of Iwate and Miyagi . The park was founded on May 2, 1955 as Rikuchū Kaigan National Park ( 陸中海 岸 国立 公園 Rikuchū Kaigan Kokuritsu Kōen , German 'Rikuchū Seaside National Park' ). After a general restructuring of the national parks in the Tōhoku region after the severe Tōhoku earthquake in 2011 , it was merged with the Tanesashi Kaigan Hashikamidake Prefectural Nature Park to form the Sanriku Fukkō National Park. The Japanese Ministry of Environment is responsible for the management of the national park.
