Gastrotropin is a transport protein from lipid metabolism .
properties
Gastrotropin binds to bile acids and mediates the transport from the apical cell membrane to the basement membrane in enterocytes of the intestine. Gastrotropin is produced in different isoforms . Isoform 1 is formed in parts of the intestine ( jejunum , ileum , caecum and in the ascending colon , but not in the subsequent part). Isoform 2 occurs in the bile and in the intestine, as well as in colorectal adenocarcinomas . The tendency to bind is in the order deoxycholic acid > cholic acid > chenodeoxycholic acid and in the order according to their respective modifications taurine -conjugated> glycine -conjugated> unconjugated.
In colon cancer, isoform 2 is responsible for apoptosis resistance to bile acids. The suspected hormone enterooxyntin was previously mistaken for gastrotropin. Inhibition of gastrotropin is being investigated for the treatment of diabetes mellitus .
