Sansang († 227 ) was the tenth ruler of the state of Goguryeo , the northern of the Three Kingdoms of Korea . He was the third son of King Sindae and ruled from 197 until his death in 227.

Life

Sansang was on good terms with Gogukcheon's wife U. After his brother's death, Queen U Sansang ascended the throne and married him. In the same year, Sansang had to put down an uprising by his older brother Balgi, which was supported by the Chinese Han dynasty . Sansang sent his younger brother Gyesu with an army against Balgi, who was beaten and committed suicide. It is believed that in 209 (the date is disputed) Sansang moved the capital to Jian. In 217, he took in many families from the Liaodong Peninsula.

Sansang's successor, Dongcheon, was the son of a concubine. He was made crown prince in 213 and succeeded his father to the throne after his father's death in 227.
