Monastery church

Sant Pau del Camp is a former monastery in the El Raval district of the Catalan capital of Barcelona in Spain .

history

The monastery was founded by Wilfried II between 897 and 911 ; his tombstone is placed in the left arm of the transept of the church.

Almansor troops ravaged the monastery in 985. The nobles Geribert Guitard and his wife Ritlandis had it rebuilt and united it with the monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès .

Since the 13th century, Sant Pau del Camp was no longer dependent on Sant Cugat del Vallès. In 1508 it was united with the Montserrat Monastery . Further changes were made until 1835, when the monastery was closed as part of the disamortization in Spain .

The monastery, classified as a cultural monument since 1879, is now a museum.
