Eartha Kitt (1927-2008)

Santa Baby is a Christmas carol written in 1953 by Joan Javits (the niece of Senator Jacob K. Javits ) and Philip Springer . The song was recorded and released in the same year by Eartha Kitt with Henri René and his orchestra in New York City .

content

The song is a glimpse of a wish list for Christmas sung by a woman who wants extravagant gifts for Christmas , such as sable fur , a yacht, and Christmas tree decorations from Tiffany . It's one of the few Christmas carols written by a woman.

There are numerous recordings and arrangements of the song. A year after the original recording, Kitt released a solo re-recording of the song, This Year's Santa Baby , which, however, did not find commercial success, nor did a new re-recording in 1963. The best-known cover version is by Kylie Minogue . This was released in 2000 as the B-side of the song Please Stay . In 2015, the song was finally included on Minogue's Christmas album A Kylie Christmas . Another well-known version is from Madonna (1987). Various cover versions of the song were released, especially in the 2010s .
