Santa Maria is a Portuguese town and a former parish ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Lagos . 7,877 inhabitants lived on a municipal area of 9.3 km² (as of June 30, 2011).
The municipality of Santa Maria, together with the municipality of São Sebastião , represented the urban area of Lagos.
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Lagos (Santa Maria) and Lagos (São Sebastião) merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Lagos (São Sebastião e Santa Maria) .
