Santa Maria della Vita
Santa Maria della Vita is a late Baroque St. Mary's Church ( Santuario ) in the center of Bologna .
history
The church goes back to a foundation by flagellants in the second half of the 13th century. The complex also included a hospital . After extensions around 1500, the current church was rebuilt between 1687 and 1690 according to plans by Giovanni Battista Bergonzoni . The elliptical central building was given the dome by Giuseppe Tubertini in 1787 .
Next to the church there is an oratory and a small museum with sacred art.
Lamentation group
In the chapel to the right of the main altar there is an expressive terracotta lamentation group by Niccolò dell'Arca .
