Santa Tecla Fútbol Club is a football club from Santa Tecla in El Salvador . Although the club was only founded in 2007 and was represented in the Primera División for the first time in the 2012/13 season , it has already won the Salvadoran football championship four times.

history

The club came into being with the aim of establishing a nationally competitive football club in Santa Tecla. The project was realized through the collaboration of the local government with the private sector.

The soccer team of Santa Tecla FC started in the 2007/08 season in Group A of the second-rate Segunda División. After she only finished fifth in the Apertura 2007 and thus missed the qualification for the Liguillas , she qualified in the Clausura 2008 for the semi-finals, where she lost 3-0 at home despite a 1-0 away win in the first leg against the later promoted Juventud Independiente failed.

A year and a half later, Santa Tecla played a strong half-season, losing only 2 of their 20 games in the league round of the Apertura 2009 and finished the championship as the sovereign leader of the table with 7 points ahead of the runner-up CD Once Lobos , where they also scored 1: 4 suffered the highest defeat of the season. But even in this competition it was not enough for the championship title, because the team suffered their only home defeat (0: 1) in the semi-finals against the later promoted CD Once Municipal and did not get more than 2: 2 in the second leg.

So Santa Tecla FC had to wait until the 2011/12 season, at the end of which the longed-for promotion to the football club finally succeeded. In the first two seasons, Santa Tecla never made it into the top 4: Apertura 2012 finished in 7th place, Clausura 2013 on 5th place, Apertura 2013 only on 8th place and Clausura 2014 5th place. The team played the first promising season in the third year of their membership in the first division. First, she finished the Apertura 2014 as the leader of the table, but failed in the semifinals against the AD Isidro-Metapán . In the subsequent Clausura 2015 she finished "only" in 3rd place, but then won her first championship title in the final against table leaders Isidro-Metapán (after a 1-1 draw in regular time) 3-1 on penalties .

In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons as well as in the Apertura 2018 (first half of the 2018/19 season) there was the final pairing between Santa Tecla FC and the capital city club Alianza FC five times in a row . The Santa Tecla FC was able to prevail three times and twice it was left behind.
