Santigie canoe
Santigie Borbor Kanu (born March 1965 in Chiefdom Maforki ), known as Five-Five , is a former Sierra Leonean military man in the Sierra Leone Army . He was a leading member of the rebel organization Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC; 1997-1998) in the civil war in Sierra Leone , which overthrew the elected government of Ahmad Tejan Kabbah in May 1997 under the leadership of Johnny Paul Koroma .
Kanu had been a member of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces since November 27, 1960 and reached the rank of sergeant by the May 25, 1997 coup . Like Alex Brima and Brima Kamara , he was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity on June 20, 2006 by the Special Court for Sierra Leone . Kanu was sentenced to 50 years in prison in Mpanga Prison in Rwanda . In 2012, he was sentenced to an additional one year and 50 weeks in prison for disobeying the court.
