Santo António is the capital of Príncipe and the administrative seat of the Pagué district of the equatorial African island state of São Tomé and Príncipe, which encompasses the island .
Santo António was the capital of the Portuguese colony from 1753 to 1852 . Today it has an estimated 1300 inhabitants. It is located in the northeast of the island on a bay on the coast and on the Palhota River .
