Santo Loquasto

Santo Richard Loquasto (born July 26, 1944 in Wilkes-Barre , Pennsylvania ) is an American production designer , set designer and costume designer with Sicilian-Italian-American roots. He designs for the stage as well as for dance and film. Loquasto was nominated three times for an Oscar until 2012 .

Life

Richard Loquasto is a descendant of Libertino lo Guasto from Serradifalco in Sicily. The Indy racer Al Loquasto is a cousin. He started his career as a designer for the Showcase Theater in Wilkes-Barre.

Santo Loquasto's work includes the production of the Don Quixote ballet, the films Don't drink the Water , Great Performances Dance in America: Fosse, and the TV show Tribeca . Loquasto has worked on 61 Broadway productions so far either as a set designer, costume designer or in both functions. In 1972 he started with Stick & Bones , his last collaboration for the time being was in 2009 on the piece Waiting for Godot .

He has been nominated 15 times for the Tony Award and has won it three times. He has also won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design three times and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Costume Design once .

Loquasto has been the production designer for Woody Allen films several times and was nominated for an Oscar for his work on the sets for Bullets Over Broadway and Radio Days and his costume design for Zelig .
