Sarah Bouyain

Sarah Bouyain (* 1968 in Reims , Marne department , France ) is a French - Burkinabe author and film director .

biography

Bouyain was born in Reims. Her mother was French and her father was half Burkinabe and half French.

She originally studied mathematics , later she decided to study film . She studied at the Louis Lumière School , which focused on film. After that she started working as a camerawoman for various films and eventually she also made her own film.

After visiting Africa, she wrote her book on Metisse façon , describing the establishment of the Upper Volta colony . African women and French soldiers who were born there were forced to leave home and move to an orphanage. The characters of the Metisse façon show an example of these children.

Bouyain also writes articles, mainly on the mingling of races in exile, for the French magazine Africultures .

Her first full-length film is the film Notre Étrangère ("The Place In Between"; 2010) which the Hollywood Reporter wrote "A nicely observed docudrama about a biracial young French woman who goes back to her roots", on September 28 and 2010 for the International Film Festival .
