Witch Craft Works ( Japanese ウ ィ ッ チ ク ラ フ ト ワ ー ク ス , Witchi Kurafuto Wākusu ) is a manga by Ryū Mizunagi , which was adapted as an anime television series in 2014 .

action

The protagonist of the plot is the student Honoka Takamiya. When he is on class duty as usual and takes out the garbage, he sees part of the school building falling on him. However, he is protected by his classmate, the apparently emotionless Ayaka Kagari, in a witch's clothing. Ayaka is tall and the most attractive and popular girl in the school. Honoka learns from her that there are two types of witches: " (ivory) tower witches" ( (象牙 の) 塔 の 魔女 , (zōge no) tō no majo ), like those who attacked him, who used their magic only use for selfish things and who do not care what happens to others, as well as “workshop witches ” ( 工房 の 魔女 , kōbō no majo ) like Ayaka, who have built a “workshop” in every major city and watch over that magic is not for misused for evil purposes. In Honoka, a powerful witch called the "White Princess" is sealed, which is why the tower witches are after him to use this power for themselves, while the workshop witches do everything to keep it sealed. From now on, Ayaka will therefore always remain close to him and protect him as “her princess” from anyone who is after him.

Characters

Workshop witches:

Honoka Takamiya ( 多 華 宮 仄 , Takamiya Honoka )
Honoka is the male protagonist of the plot and a rather inconspicuous student. The mighty “White Princess” ( 白 姫 , Shirohime ) is sealed in it, who the tower witches want to free but the workshop witches want to have sealed.
Ayaka Kagari ( 火 々 里 綾 火 , Kagari Ayaka )
Ayaka is the female protagonist. She is tall, attractive, intelligent and athletic and is considered the most popular girl in school. She has a very stoic and silent character, but is infatuated with Honoka, which is accordingly almost exclusively expressed in her actions towards him. She is considered to be one of the most powerful witches because she specializes in fire magic, which is why she is called Fire Starter ( フ ァ イ ア ー ス タ ー タ ー , Faiā Sutātā ), and because she is almost invulnerable, whereby she partially taps into those of Honoka for her powers. Since all of her actions are aimed at averting any damage to Honoka, she has cast a spell on him that redirects all damage to her, which is her only weak point.
Kazane Kagari ( 火 々 里 か ざ ね , Kagari Kazane )
Kazane is Ayaka's mother and the school's chairman. She is the leader of the town's workshop witches. She has powerful magical powers with which she can protect the entire city, but mainly fights with her fists. Despite her looks, she is hundreds of years old, having witnessed the Crusades and the French Revolution . On the other hand, she went to school with Honoka's mother, where they both had a relationship, but since they could not marry themselves, they agreed to betroth their future children.
Kasumi Takamiya ( 多 華 宮 霞 , Takamiya Kasumi )
Kasumi is Honoka's younger sister and, to Honoka's surprise, is a witch. Her “ally” is a teddy bear, which she can enlarge to gigantic proportions for battle. Kasumi has a brother complex, which is why she is hostile to Ayaka.

Tower witches:

Chronoire Schwarz Six ( ク ロ ノ ワ ー ル シ ュ ヴ ァ ル ツ ・ シ ッ ク ス , Kuronowāru Shuvarutsu Shikkusu )
Chronoire - an alternative reading of the characters is Kuro Noir , which also means "black" in Japanese and French - is a tower witch and old (several hundred years) acquaintance of Kazane. Your servant is a speaking, elegantly dressed crocodile. She gives Honoka a candy that breaks the first seal of the "White Princess", which is a catalyst for the further action.
Medusa ( メ デ ュ ー サ , Medyūsa )
Medusa is a mighty tower witch who, with her “stone eyes and stone hands”, can petrify not only people, but also abstract things such as concepts. Therefore, after she was captured by the workshop witches, her eyes were sealed with a magical blindfold and her arms were sealed with a magical straitjacket. At the beginning of the plot, she breaks out of prison and eventually hides with her subordinates at Honoka's home.
Tampopo Kuraishi ( 倉 石 た ん ぽ ぽ , Kuraishi Tampopo ) Kanna Utsugi ( 宇津木 環 那 , Utsugi Kanna ) Rin Kazari ( 飾 鈴 , Kazari Rin ) Kotetsu Katsura ( 桂 虎 鉄 , Katsura Kotetsu ) andMei Menowa ( 目 野 輪 冥 , Menowa Mei )
The five are Medusa's subordinates and as a group are also called KMM-dan ( KMM 団 ).
Recognizable by their animal ears ( kemomimi ) and elongated pupils, Tampopo fights shikigami in the shape of an army of rabbits, which are, however, prone to fire because they are practically made of the paper with which they were summoned.
Kanna fights using a large spellbook, Rin is a necromancer , Kotetsu uses a sword, and Mei wears an eye patch and a large dog around her neck and fights with space warping magic.
Weekend ( ウ ィ ー ク エ ン ド , Wīkuendo )
Weekend is an influential tower witch with a large number of subordinates who is after the power of the White Princess. Her magic specializes in bombs, although her greatest strength is strategy.

Afternoon for a new series, he took his competition story Witch Craft Works and combined it with Majokko Mono , with the two protagonists initially female and their relationship a lesbian ( Yuri ), but then returned to leaving Takamiya male, with him However, the feminine sounding first name Honoka was retained.

Finally, on March 5, 2010 , Witch Craft Works became the Good! Afternoon published, where he changed his stage name to Ryū Mizunagi. So far (as of October 2018) the chapters have been summarized in 12 anthologies ( Tankōbon ):
