The Sarasinpark is a park in the style of an English landscape park from the mid-19th century with an area of approx. 1,200 m² in Riehen , Canton Basel-Stadt in Switzerland . It is located north of the old village center, directly opposite the Fondation Beyeler .

Originally the area was used for agriculture and contained some farm and vine houses. Their successors are the farm and coach houses of the country estates, some of which have been preserved . The Sarasin Park , created in 1766, unites the area of three baroque country estates belonging to the Werthemann-Stähelin, Le Grand and Elbs-Birr families.

The Elbs-Birrsche estate was built in 1694/95 as a vineyard by Daniel Elbs-Birr. Samuel Heusler expanded the building into a baroque country house with a cour d'honneur , which also exists at Iselin-Weber's country estate. An avenue of lime trees has been preserved from the baroque period. At times, the city council president of Basel, Hieronymus Bischoff , who was the first president of the Riehener deaconess house from 1852, owned the Elbs-Birrsche estate.

In the entrance area of the main house, ceiling paintings were exposed by the monument preservation department, which were hidden under the later baroque stucco ceilings. The building has been owned by the community of Riehen since 1976, has been renovated and is now used as a public music school.

In the early 1980s, Sarasinpark was discussed on various occasions. Its area should be used for a new community hospital or swimming pool. But nothing of the kind has been built to date. For several years the park has gradually been brought closer to its original structure. Among other things, formerly existing curved paths are being reconstructed, which can still be seen on old plans of the park. An orangery (built in 1836 by the then owner of the Elbs-Birrschen country estate) has been restored and is now available for upscale events. There is a pond at your feet.

The community makes the circus site available to those organizers who can prove a relationship with Riehen. In the interests of the residents, care is taken to ensure that the number of events does not exceed a reasonable level.
