Coffin lead

The coffin of lead used in fishing for weighing down the fishing line . Its typical flat and hexagonal shape like that of a coffin gives it its name.

A through hole for the cord goes right through the middle of the flat shape. The coffin lead is usually used for bottom fishing to keep the bait on the bottom of the water in spite of the current and buoyancy ; its flat shape increases the grip on the ground in strong currents. To do this, it is threaded onto the cord at a distance of approx. 10–200 cm from the hook. It can be used as sliding lead and with the help of two string stopper as hard lead are assembled. It is offered in weights of approx. 10–500 grams.
