The Sasse Feinbrennerei (in the commercial register of Theo Sasse eK ) has been a family-owned distillery in Schöppingen in the Münsterland for over 300 years . It is one of the last remaining fully integrated distilleries in the Münsterland, a former stronghold of the grain distillery in Germany. In addition to its own raw and fine brandy distillation , the company also carries out the maceration of herbal extracts and the distillation of local juniper berries , as well as the production and bottling of spirits at one location. The focus is on the production of aperitif and digestif products . The main product is a grain brandy .

history

In 1707, the Wilmink family first mentioned the operation of a distillery and brewery . In 1778 Bernd Anton Wilmink II, a businessman by trade, leased the Schöppinger town mill. In 1857 Elisabeth Wilmink married Franz Anton Sasse, who from then on managed the business of the grain distillery. He expanded it in 1885 and installed the first steam engine in Schöppingen. In 1918 Theo Sasse took over the family business.

In 1972 the old company premises became too small and a new building with a modern distillery was built. In 1976, after Theo Sasse's death, his son Ernst Sasse took over the business and realigned it. In 1987 he reintroduced the old technique of barrique aging on a trial basis for a fine grain. After a ten-year development phase, the "Münsterländer Lagerkorn VSOP" was launched in 1997 according to an old recipe.
