With set one was Kohlenmaß in the Eifel referred. This larger measure was called Tain , Tainde, also tithe, in Hamburg , and equated with 4 Respen. Respen is a dialect term for troughs. These were used to transport coal in low overburden stretches or to be carried to the wagon and were made of hazel wood. In an ironworks in Gemünd one can guess the coal consumption. In 24 hours, 14 to 15 gouts were common and then there was the set with 6 respen for one gout. 9 sets of 4 respen filled a cart with coals. Information about quantities or weight scatter, but 9 bushels (Prussia) for 4 respen are close to reality.
