The sauce level (seldom sauce level ) is a variant for serving dishes or, more generally, a form of garnish . A sauce is usually spread thinly and in a circle on the dinnerware and the other components of the dish are placed on or next to it.

The sauce level is primarily used to enhance the appearance of the dish and is common in upscale restaurant kitchens. The transitions to a diverse decoration of the plate with sauce dots or strips, for example with the crema di balsamico popular with many amateur cooks , are fluid. Especially for desserts, the mirror often consists of two or more sauces that are coordinated in terms of taste and color, which are intertwined with the help of appropriate accessories such as wooden sticks or forks to form patterns.
