The Saules akmens (on German Sunstone ) is the Latvian headquarters of Swedbank . The building is located on the left bank of the Daugava River , opposite Riga's historic old town .
Work on the building began on February 14, 2003. It was finally completed on November 17, 2004. The construction costs amounted to around 20 million US dollars. The Sonnenstein has a usable area of 29,908 m² and, with a total height of 122 meters, is the tallest building in the Latvian capital and the second tallest building in the metropolis after the Riga TV tower . After completion of the Z-Towers in 2015, the Sonnenstein will only be the third tallest building in the city.
